Start with the problem you need to solve
A funding amount alone does not tell you which product fits. A roofing deposit, an HVAC equipment purchase, and a seasonal payroll gap can each call for a different structure. Write down when you need the money, what it will pay for, and when the business expects cash back.

Working capital describes the use of the money. It does not identify the repayment structure. Ask what you are actually being offered before comparing prices.
| Structure | How funding works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Revolving credit line | Draw up to an approved limit; eligible repaid principal may become available again. | Draw fees, renewal conditions, payment cadence, and whether additional draws need approval. |
| Business term loan | Receive a defined amount and repay according to the loan agreement. | Interest rate, fees, amortization, maturity, and whether a balloon payment exists. |
| SBA-backed financing | A participating lender makes a loan under an SBA program. | Program eligibility, documentation, permitted uses, timeline, and lender requirements. |
| Equipment financing | Financing tied to a specific equipment purchase. | Down payment, asset lien, useful life, insurance, and total payments. |
| Receivables-based advance | A contract based on purchasing future business receivables. | Total purchased amount, deductions, reconciliation provisions, and effective cost. |
This is a general structure comparison, not a list of approved offers. Products and availability depend on the provider, state, business, and underwriting.
Funding questions for your industry
Roofing business loans
Materials, crew payroll, deposits, progress payments, and retainage can create very different cash timing.
Plan a roofing cash gap →HVAC business financing
Compare parts and installation funding with a separate equipment or service-vehicle purchase.
Explore HVAC funding →Landscaping business loans
Prepare for contract mobilization, seasonal staffing, maintenance work, and equipment replacement.
Plan landscaping funding →Compare the full offer, not just the headline rate
Put every offer on the same worksheet. A low advertised rate can be hard to interpret when payment frequency, fees, or the amount received are different. Your comparison should include:
- Amount received in your bank account after fees.
- Total amount you will pay, including required fees.
- Payment amount, frequency, and first payment date.
- Personal guarantee, collateral, and any business-asset lien.
- Early repayment terms, renewal rules, and default provisions.
Ask for the actual agreement
A rate estimate or preliminary discussion is not a commitment to lend. Review the written offer and the contract before deciding whether the financing meets your needs.
Prepare for a productive funding conversation
- Define the use. Name the expense or opportunity and the date the money is needed.
- Estimate the gap. Subtract available business cash and expected customer deposits from the expenses due before collections.
- Gather a snapshot. Have business age, recent revenue, existing financing payments, and recent business bank statements available.
- Compare options. Ask which product fits the use, what its full cost is, and how it affects the business during a slower month.

Common funding questions
Is a business line of credit the same as a loan?
A revolving credit line gives you an approved limit to draw against, while a term loan typically provides a lump sum. Review the repayment and reuse terms of the specific product.
Does completing an application guarantee funding?
No. The financing provider must review the business and decide whether to approve an offer. An application also does not guarantee a particular rate or amount.
Can I speak with someone first?
Yes. Call 754-314-7738 or email gerold@sunlightcapitalpros.com to discuss what you need before completing an application.
